As a teenager, I traveled to Mexico. I fell in love with the villages and native people, dressed in colorful wraps, shawls and clothing. During my return some years later, I visited the villages of the Yucatan Peninsula and the mountains. The beauty of the native people with their bright, colorful wraps accented against the purple subtle mountain landscapes continued to intrigue me. Their weavings and the women at the looms making garments inspired me.
As a photographer in such a colorfully creative environment, I found my camera hardly left my eye. Years later, during one cold Montana winter, I was learning the art of weaving, using fuchsias, blues, reds and chartreuse colors in combination with earth tones and neutrals. I was always drawn to the quality of light when shooting pictures, the ebb and flow and how it teased the landscape with its hues. Now, I experience my weaving in a similar way, an interplay of colors, patterns, textures and blending of fibers.
